Introduction to the World
For your first assignment of the semester, I would like you to introduce yourself-to myself, to your classmates, and to the world. In a 250-500 word text--which will eventually serve as the first entry on the blog you are keeping for this class--give your reader some sense of who you are as well as your orientation to/expectations for our class. Remember, as this will be eventually published digitally, it is up to you to decide just how much personal information (perhaps most importantly your name) that you would like to share with not only your classmates, but anyone who chooses to stop by your website. That being said, it will be necessary to give your reader some concrete sense of who you are, so you will want to discuss what you consider to be important influences on how you perceive the world, even if you don't want to be too specific about them (e.g. I might say that I grew up in a major metropolitan space and was always reliant on public transportation, rather than saying I am a strap-hanger from New York City). In addition to giving your reader some sense of where you are coming from, I would also like you to give your readers some sense of where you would like to be going (i.e. your current personal and professional interests) and how you see this class relating to those goals and/or why you otherwise might have chosen to take this particular class (if the reason happens to be something more compelling than that it fit your schedule and fulfilled a requirement). This 250-500 word document will be due to me via email before class on Wednesday, September 4 and you will receive feedback from me and be able to revise it before publishing it to your website and making it fully public on Monday, September 16.
